Thomas Hendrix Lewis of 850 South 42nd Street, Springfield, Ore., died at his residence on Sept. 19, 1977, at the age of 91. Thomas Lewis was born on Sept. 23, 1885 in Concordia, KS. He was married to Minnie C. Haas on Oct. 30, 1912 at Johnstown, Nebr., and she preceded him in death on July 5, 1964. Tom Lewis took out a Kincaid Homestead in Brown County, Nebr., in 1910 of 320 acres. They came to Springfield in 1936 and worked on the construction of the Rosboro Lumber Co. Tom later worked as a dry kiln operator at Rosboro Lbr. Co., until his retirement in 1952. He lived on a small acreage on Jasper Road for over 41 years. He was a member of the Springfield Lodge No. 70 IOOF and was a member of the IOOF lodge for 61 years. He was active in the Golden Agers of Springfield. He is survived by two sons, Melvin W. Lewis of Madras, Ore., and Keith T. Lewis of Eugene, Ore.; granddaughter, Mrs. Karen Mills, Helena, Mont.; and grandson, Richard V. Lewis of Madris; one great-granddaughter, Deanna Lewis of Madras; two great-grandsons, Scott Lewis of Madras and Jeffrey Hardigger of Helena, Mont; four sisters, Mrs. Billie Elliott of Olympia, Wash.; Mrs. Ona Isbell of Olympia; Mrs. Hazel Enders of Winner, S.D., and Mrs. Mona Flisher of Concordia, Ks. Funeral services were held on Sept. 23 at 1:30 at Burns-Fredericksen Funeral Home. Services were officiated by the Springfield Lodge No. 70 IOOF with concluding rites and vault interment at Lane Memorial Gardens. The family has suggested those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Oregon Heart Fund.
