Viola M. McCarthy, 84, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Skilled Care Unit of the St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 3:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Steve Warriner will officiate.
Burial will be at the Aurora Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Mrs. McCarthy was born on September 9, 1920 in Giltner, Nebraska to Leslie and Hattie (Newell) Catlett.
Survivors of the immediate family include three sons and daughters-in-law, Marion (Bud) & Ann McCarthy of North Platte, John & Deborah McCarthy of Brush Prarie, Washington, and Joe & Kim McCarthy of Arkansas; three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy & Troy Svoboda and Julie & Randy Burkhardt of Grand Island, and Susan & Troy Cramer of Wood River.
Additional survivors include 24 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. McCarthy received her education in Aurora.
She married Marion McCarthy on April 1, 1942 in Aurora. After her family was raised, Viola was employed for seven years at Wedgewood Care Center.
She enjoyed playing Bingo, working crossword puzzles, and she loved being a grandmother.
Viola also did volunteer work at the Grand Generation Center.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one daughter, Jeanette McCarthy, and three sons, Willard, Edward, and Michael McCarthy.
