Gilmore L. Schmidt, 70, formerly of Grand Island and Kearney, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at his home in Arvada, Colorado after a long illness. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 23, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney. Rev. North Sherrill will officiate. Burial will be in the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Memorials are suggested to the family. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Gilmore was born June 11, 1934 at Poole, Nebraska the son of Ferd and Clara (Heider) Schmidt. He grew up in Poole and received most of his education there. He moved to Kearney where he graduated from Kearney High School. He was united in marriage to Marjory Ann Sadd on July 31, 1955. He entered the U.S. Army serving from 1957 until his discharge in 1959. While in the Army he and his wife lived in Alabama, Arizona and New Mexico. He lived in Grand Island until he took a job with Goodyear and moved to Lincoln. In 1996 they returned to Kearney until moving to Colorado in December of 2003.
Mr. Schmidt was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Denver and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney.
He is survived by his wife Marjory and four children; Tamra and husband Steve Smith of Westminster, Colorado, Randy Lee Schmidt of Lincoln, Ronny and his wife Brenda Schmidt of Lincoln, and Toby Lane and his wife Becky Schmidt of Lincoln. Also left to cherish his memory are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and a sister Wauneta Bliven of Fremont, Nebraska and a nephew Donald Schmidt of Ravenna, Nebraska. He was preceded in death by brothers Stanley and Eldor and a sister Lois.
