John W. Bixenmann, 86, of Grand Island, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005 at the St. Francis Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Cathedral with Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4-8 P.M. at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with a parish rosary recited at 6:00 Friday evening.
Mr. Bixenmann was born January 14, 1919 in Grand Island the son of John A. and Armilta (Carl) Bixenmann. He received his education at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Grand Island, St. Anthony’s Catholic School in Wichita, Kansas and attended Grand Island Sr. High.
He was united in marriage to Clara Foale on June 1, 1940 in Grand Island. They lived in Grand Island until 1960 when they moved to Denver and then back to Grand Island in 1964. He was employed by the Grand Island School district as a painter until his retirement in 1984. They them moved to Lemoyne, Nebraska and lived at Lake McConaughy.
He served in the U.S. Army from March of 1946 until his discharge in June of 946.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include four sons, Mike and his wife Norma Bixenmann of Lewellen, Nebraska, Bill and his wife Lucy Bixenmann of Dell Rapids, South Dakota, Fred Bixenmann of Texas and Randy Bixenmann of Elko, Nevada and a daughter Janice Brandt of Grand Island. He is also survived by three brothers; Joe of Grand Island, Jim and his wife Irene of Grand Island and Leo of Las Vegas, Nevada and two sisters; Jeanette Sears of Illinois and Mary Decker of Security, Colorado. Also left to cherish his memory are ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1991 a daughter Elizabeth in 1969, two sisters and one brother.
