LeRoy H. Schroeder, 87, of Grand Island, passed away Sunday evening, January 16, 2005 at Wedgewood Care Center, Grand Island. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 20, 2005 at 10:00 P.M. at Peace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 19, 2004 from 4-8 P.M. at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends.
LeRoy was born December 13, 1917 the son of Fred and Etta (Schweiger) Schroeder.
Survivors of his immediate family include his wife, Ruby C. Schroeder; One son and daughter-in-law, Leonard and Rosie Schroeder of Kenesaw; Two daughters and sons-in-law, Lewellyn and Richard Rehder and Loretta and Jonathan Catlett of Grand Island.
Also surviving are nine grandchildren; Mike Schroeder of Junanita, Nebraska, Tim Schroeder of Des Moines, Iowa, Mitch Schroeder of Kenesaw, Nebraska, Troy Schroeder of Hastings, Nebraska, Brenda Kehler of Greeley, Nebraska, Crystal Rehnberg of Grand Island, Rhonda Fishell of Wood River, Nebraska, Johathan Catlett of Grand Island and William Catlett of Lincoln, Nebraska. Also left to cherish is memory are 11 great-grandchildren.
LeRoy grew up on a farm south of Alda and attended District 6 school. He was confirmed in the Lutheran Faith on April 2, 1944 at St. Paul’s English Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his parents.
In the earlier years, they lived near Wood River, Kenesaw and Alda where they farmed. In 1957 they moved to the Lindeburg farm where he farmed and ran the dairy operation. Later they moved to Kenesaw where LeRoy worked for the City of Kenesaw. In 1963, they moved to Grand Island where he worked for Berkley Pump Company until his retirement in 1981. Due to failing health, LeRoy and Ruby moved to Wedgewood Care Center in August of 2002.
After retirement, LeRoy became certified with Foley Saw Sharpening and sharpened saws. He enjoyed woodworking, saw sharpening, gardening, dancing and being with family.
He was a member of the Platt-Duetsche Society and Peace Lutheran Church.
