Lester (Les). L. Chambers, 78, of Grand Island, died Saturday, December 25, 2004 at the Skilled Care Unit of the St. Francis Medical Center.
Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10:00 A.M. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate.
Burial will be at 1:30 P.M. on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in York.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. rosary at St. Leo’s Catholic Church.
Mr. Chambers was born on September 11, 1926 in Waco, Nebraska to Fay Harold and Bessie Emma (Cantrell) Chambers.
Survivors of the immediate family include three daughters and one son-in-law, Patricia Powell of Lincoln, NE., Ann Chambers of Grand Island, and Susan & Patrick Barrett of Lincoln; one son Al Chambers of Lincoln; two sisters, Emma Gartman of Bacliff, TX., and Charlotte Dormer of LaVista, NE.; and one brother, Harold Chambers of Phillips.
Additional survivors include 8 grandchildren, Kathleen Chapman, Daniel Chapman, Jason Chambers, Matt Chambers, Adam Chambers, Ben Chambers, Amelia Barrett, and Audrey Barrett.
Mr. Chambers attended school in York, and graduated from Phillips High School in 1944.
He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Tusk from 1944 until 1946.
After his military service he attended Grand Island Business College.
He married Margaret Power on May 14, 1949 in Grand Island.
Mr. Chambers was employed as a zone manager and sales rep for International Harvester/ Toners Inc. since August 1948.
He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church.
Mr. Chambers enjoyed baseball, college football, bowling, and horse racing.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; and two sons, Rand and Tom Chambers.
