Dr. Pierce T. Sloss, 81, of Grand Island, died Saturday, November 27, 2004 at his home.
Graveside services will be on Friday at 1:00 P.M. at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. John Hayes will officiate.
Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Dr. Sloss was born on September 28, 1923 at Ft. Robinson, Nebraska to John W. and Sarah Reba Catherine (Pierce) Sloss.
Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters-in-law, David & Rosemarie Sloss of Lincoln, John & Cheryl Sloss of St. Louis, Missouri; two daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Ann & Michael Johns of Bee, Nebraska, and Linda J. Sloss of Grand Island.
Additional survivors include five grandchildren.
After his elementary and high School education, Dr. Sloss attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. He also attended Sacramento City College, Stanford University, The University of Iowa, and The University of Minnesota.
He did his rotating Medical Internship at Toledo Hospital, in Toledo, Ohio. He then served his medical residences at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, and the Raymond Blank Memorial Hospital for Children in Des Moines.
Dr. Sloss also served three and one-half years in the U.S. Army Reserves, 20 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves, served in W.W. II from 1943-1946, and the Korean War from 1948-1950 and also from 1953-1954.
He then entered private practice of medicine n Grand Island from 1955 until his retirement in 1992.
Dr. Sloss was preceded in death by an infant brother.
