Ernest V. Parkos,86, of Lincoln, formerly of Grand Island died Monday, November 15, 2004 at the Monarch Hospice House in Lincoln.
Funeral services will be on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Jack Rademacher will officiate.
Burial will be at 2:30 P.M. Saturday at the Ord Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at St. Leo’s Catholic Church with a wake service at 7:00 P.M.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Parkos was born on December 12, 1917, in Arcadia, Nebraska to Joseph M. and Mary A. (Volf) Parkos.
Survivors of the immediate family include one daughter and son-in-law, Judy & Don Karnopp of Lincoln; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry & Jan Parkos of Houston, Texas.
Additional survivors include 6 grandchildren; 2 great-granddaughters; and one brother and sister-in-law, Vencil & Hazel Parkos of Beverly Hills, Florida.
Mr. Parkos attended Pleasant Valley Country School and then graduated from Arcadia High School in 1936.
He married Clara Bartusiak on June 10, 1941 in Burwell, Nebraska.
The couple lived in Pueblo, Colorado before returning to Arcadia to take over the family farm. They sold the farm in 1961and bought and managed a motel in Sidney, Nebraska for four years. The couple then moved to Holdrege where they owned a liquor store.
Mr. Parkos retired in 1981, and they spent their winters in Arizona. They moved to Grand Island in 1991. Mrs. Parkos died in 1999.
Mr. Parkos then moved to Lincoln in August of 2004.
He enjoyed camping, dancing, and playing cards.
He was a member of St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Elks Club #604, the Saddle Club, the Platte-Duetsche, and the Liederkranz.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Parkos was preceded in death by his parents.
