Michael ‘Mike’ L. Humiston, 51, of Grand Island, died Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Following the funeral service Mr. Humiston’s body will be cremated at Westlawn Memorial Park Crematory. Burial of the cremains will be on Monday at 4:00 P.M. at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mr. Humiston was born on November 25, 1952 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Robert M. and Virginia M. (Jankovitz) Humiston Sr. Survivors of the immediate family include his mother of Grand Island; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert & Judy Humiston Jr. and Charles & Edith Humiston of Grand Island; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda & Michael Rotolo of Las Vegas, Nevada and Delores (Dee) & Michael Garrett of Grand Island. Additional survivors include his uncle Louis Jankovitz of Grand Island, and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Humiston received his education in Grand Island, and graduated from Northwest High School in 1971. He was co-owner of the Diamond Wheel Roller Skating Rink in Kearney. After returning to Grand Island, he owned the Diamond Wheel Skating Rink and Handyman Hardware. In later years he worked for Platte Valley Retreaders. Mr. Humiston was an accomplished roller skater, winning numerous trophies for his skating abilities. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father in 1986, and by his paternal and maternal grandparents.
