Cecil Benton Birchard, 57, of Alda, went home with our Lord on Sunday, October 10, 2004 at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island after a 10 month battle with cancer. He died with all his family surrounding him as he did in life. Memorial Services will be held Friday, October 15, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. in the Chapel of the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Rev. Gary Schulte will officiate. There will be no visitation as Mr. Birchard’s body was cremated at Westlawn Memorial Park in Grand Island. Born in Gillett Grove, IA on May 27, 1947 the son of Benton C. and Alice J. Backstrom Birchard of Northwest, Iowa. He graduated in 1965 from South Clay High School in Gillett Grove, Iowa. Moved to Grand Island in 1979 where he worked at Monfort packinghouse. Later he worked for Monfort Transportation, and then Parris Trucking out of Grand Island. At the time of his death he was driving truck for Rolar Inc. out of Gibbon, Nebraska. Cecil is survived by his wife Barbara of Alda. Five children; Chad and Jill of New Mexico, Jeromy and Nikki of Rochester, MN, Todd and Cariena of Pacific Junction, IA, Sara and Shauna Birchard both of Kearney, NE. Four step-children; David Miller of McCook, NE, Candice and Mike Stalnaker of Omaha, Danielle and James Rojas of Alda and Brad and Ann Miller of Lincoln. Two brothers and sisters-in-law; Earl and Wanda Birchard of Spencer, Iowa, Roger and Karen Birchard of Paullina, IA. Four sisters and brothers-in-law, Blanch and LaVern Foxhoven from Estherville, IA, Wanda Mills from Spencer, IA, Shirley and Bob Stone from Houston, TX and Alice Birchard from Spencer, IA. Also left to cherish his memory are 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Elmer, sister Betty, sister Marlene Anderson and brother and sistere-in-law Harold “Butch” and Ardis.
