Lillian (Tews) Sprague, 70, of Grand Island, died Saturday, October 9, 2004, at Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island following a long battle with cancer. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, October 14, 2004, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. Burial will be at 2:00 P.M. Thursday in the Parkview Cemetery at Hastings, Nebraska. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island. Mrs. Sprague was born November 5, 1933, at Hastings, Nebraska to Karl and Bella (Kalberg) Tews. Lillian grew up in Hastings graduating from Hastings High School in 1951. She graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1955 where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She did graduate work at Utah State University and the University of Wyoming. Lillian married Leroy Sprague on June 19, 1960, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hastings. They lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming until moving to Grand Island, Nebraska in 1993. She retired in 1986 from teaching after 31 years. She taught Spanish her first year in Powell, Wyoming, and Spanish 30 years at Carey Junior High in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Lillian enjoyed spending time at their Estes Park condo. She was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island, the YWCA, Grand Island Newcomers, Chapter BA, PEO in Cheyenne and Alpha Delta Kappa. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Leroy Sprague of Grand Island; her mother, Bella Tews of Grand Island; one brother and sister-in-law, K. Richard and Elaine Tews of Redding, Calif. She is also survived by one niece and her husband, Lynn and Lance Goble and their daughter, Savannah of Redding, Calif. She was preceded in death by her father on July 15, 1998.
