Helen B. Brown, 82, formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, October 07, 2004, at the Immanuel Fontanelle Home in Omaha. Graveside services will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Schroeder will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Brown was born January 31, 1922, in Grand Island to Peter and Sophie (Koehler) Bohl. Survivors of the immediate family include three sons and daughters-in-law, Donald and Donna Brown of Decatur, TX, Dennis and Bonnie Brown of Omaha, and David and Marcia Brown of Englewood, CO; daughter-in-law, Nan Brown of Springhill, LA; one daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Don Shirley of Sparta, MO. Additional survivors include 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Helen grew up and attended school in Grand Island graduating from Grand Island Senior High in 1940. She married Donald J. Brown on December 29, 1940, at Grand Island. Helen worked as a ward secretary for the Veteran’s Administration from 1957 to 1982. She had most recently been living at the Clara-Ellen House assisted living home in Fort Calhoun. She enjoyed various crafts and especially making Barbie doll clothes. She also made memorial poppies for the Disabled American Veterans for many years. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and was a member and past president of the VFW Auxiliary. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter, Marcia; six brothers and three sisters.
