Anna T. O’Neill, 96, of Grand Island, died Monday, September 27, 2004 at her home at Riverside Lodge in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. O’Neill was born on April 23, 1908 in a sod house near Elba, Nebraska to John and Kate (Blaha) Ambrose. Survivors of the immediate family include two daughters and sons-in-law, Lorraine & Bert Matousek of Grand Island, and Leonita & Jim Logsdon of Lincoln. Additional survivors include nine grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Elma O’Neill of St. Paul, and Rosella Ziller of Grand Island, and well as several nieces and nephews. Mrs. O’Neill graduated from Elba High School in 1926. On November 25, 1930, she was united in marriage to Hubert O’Neill in St. Paul. The couple farmed in Howard County until 1947 when they moved to Grand Island. She was a cook at St. Mary’s school for several years. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Christian Mothers, and the St. Mary’s quilting group. She was also a volunteer at St. Francis Hospital having made over 1,500 caps for the nursery. Mrs. O’Neill has been a resident at Riverside Lodge since 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1974; four brothers, Frank, Joe, Louie, and Rudy Ambrose, and by two sisters, Lucy Bourch, and Mary Mulligan.
