Leona A. Gebers, 71, of Grand Island, died Sunday, September 12, 2004 at Beverly Healthcare at Parkplace. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Ron Benson will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. There will also be a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M. on Thursday at the church. Visitation will on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Gebers was born on December 7, 1932 in rural Hall County to Armin F. and Lilian A. (Schobring) Dankert. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Edmund of Grand Island; four sons and two daughters-in-laws Brian & Tena Gebers and Vaughn & Karen Gebers all of Lincoln, Donald Gebers of Overland Park, Kansas, and Curtis Gebers of Vancouver, Washington; and one daughter and son-in-law, Linda & Jim Holtzen of Omaha. Additional survivors include six grandchildren, Erich Gebers, Paul Gebers, Nathan Gebers, Michael Holtzen, Kyle Holtzen, and Jamie Gebers. Mrs. Gebers received her education at St. John’s Lutheran School located northwest of Grand Island. She married Edmund Gebers on November 30, 1952 in Grand Island. Mrs. Gebers worked with her husband at the family owned Ed’s 66 filling station and wrecker service. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, bowling, and she did a lot of sewing for other people. She also received a special volunteer award from the American Red Cross for her work at the Dewitt, Nebraska floods. Mrs. Gebers was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Ladies Aid, was the treasurer of the Trinity Lutheran sewing circle, and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She was preceded in death by her parents.
