Ralph W. Slauter, 85, of Grand Island, died Monday, September 6, 2004 at the Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jerry Quandt will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mr. Slauter was born on October 26, 1918 in Anover, Iowa to Alvin and Lunna (Spitznogle) Slauter. Survivors of the family include special friends, Julie & John Olsufka of Grand Island; special granddaughters, Melanie & Kelly Olsufka of Grand Island; one son & daughter-in-law, Don & Paula Slauter of Johnson Lake; step-sons and daughters in law, Bob & Sheila Krolikowski, and Jerry & Angie Krolikowski all of Grand Island; adopted sons, Mike Slauter of Grand Island, and Ken & Sharmane Slauter of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Christina Rood of Broken Bow, and Dorothy Schmegel of Washington, Missouri. Additional survivors three grandchildren, Kelli Slauter Knott of Kenesaw, Angi Slauter Muller of Shelton, and Dawn Slauter of Phoenix, Arizona; five great grandchildren, Ryan Knott of Kenesaw, Andy Knott of Kenesaw, Ashlee Muller of Lincoln, Shelby Muller of Shelton, and Nick Muller of Shelton. Mr. Slauter received his education in Iowa and graduated from Shenandoah High School. He moved to Grand Island in the late 1950’s and married Luella Krolikowski on October 25, 1958 in Yankton, South Dakota. Mr. Slauter was employed as a warehouse supervisor at Nash Finch for over 40 years. He was a member of the Eagles Club. He enjoyed gardening, playing cards, Chicago Cubs baseball, and listening to Nebraska Football. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Darren, five brothers, Alvin, Leonard, Raymond, Leland, and Earl, and by three sisters, Pearl, Birdie, and Margaret.
