Petty Officer Eric L. Knott, 21, of Grand Island, a Navy Seabee, died Saturday morning, September 4, 2004 in a bomb attack in Fallujah, Iraq. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Rev. Ronald Benson will officiate. A family prayer service will be held at 10:45A.M. in the chapel of the church. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites provided by the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps honor detail. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Eric was born October 12, 1982, at Grand Island to Randy and Vera (Watson) Knott. Survivors of the immediate family are his father and step-mother, Randy and Teri Knott of Grand Island; mother and step-father, Vera and Steve Thorpe of Hastings, two brothers, William Knott of Hastings and Timothy Knott of Seward; his sister, Angela Knott of Lincoln; paternal grandparents, Lyle and Arlene Knott of Grand Island; and maternal grandmother, Masel Anderson of Grand Island. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Eric grew up and received his education in Grand Island, graduating from Grand Island Senior High School in 2001. He then entered the U.S. Navy and was serving his second tour of duty in Iraq at the time of his death. Eric enjoyed soccer and baseball in his school years and was active in show choir and the fine arts at Grand Island Senior High. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Robert Watson and maternal step-grandfather, Eugene ‘Andy’ Anderson.
