Duane R. Leibert, 52, of 2550 N. Webb Rd., Grand Island, died Sunday, August 22, 2004 at St. Francis Skilled Care Unit. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 26, 2004 at 11:00 A.M. at the Grace Baptist Church at 1115 S. Vine in Grand Island. Revs. John Hayes and Roger Ridley officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, August 25, 2004 from 3-8 P.M. at the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home with the family present to greet friends during that time. Duane was born July 2, 1952 in Sargent, Nebraska the son of Roger and Phyllis (Carmody) Leibert. He grew up in Omaha where he received his education graduating from Omaha Burk High School. He was united in marriage to Linda Pettersen in 1971. He entered the U.S. Marines in August of 1971 and served with honor in the European Theater receiving the National Defense Service Metal and his rifle sharp shooter metal. He was discharged in August of 1973. He was united in marriage to Carmen Hafner on November 17, 1975 in Pueblo, Colorado. They lived in Grand Island, moving to Omaha in 1976 and returning to Grand Island in 1980. Duane had worked at the V.A. Medical in Center in Grand Island from 1984 until failing health forced his retirement in April of this year. Duane was a member of the Grace Baptist Church and the V.F.W. of Grand Island. Survivors include his wife Carmen, and a son Duane H. Leibert of Wilbur,Nebraska, his mother Phyllis Codner of Grand Island and grandson, Roger William Leibert. He is also survived by three brothers; Rodney Duane Leibert of Plattsmoth, Nebraska, Mark Ralph Leibert of Omaha and Robert Seth Leibert also of Omaha and his in-laws; Dorwin and Betty Hafner. He was preceded in death by his father.
