Bill Hotz (79) of Grand Island died Tuesday, July 6, 2004, at the Nebraska Veterans Home in Grand Island. Services will be held Friday, July 9, 2004 at 1:30 P.M. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 5th and Elm Street, Grand Island, with the Reverend Jim Keyser officiating. A gathering of friends and family with refreshments will follow the services at the church. Visitation will be held Thursday, July 8, 2004 from 4-8 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The family will be present to greet friends from 6-7:30. Survivors of his immediate family are his wife, Wilma; a daughter, Dixie Hotz of Omaha; daughter and son-in-law Cindi and Steve Allely of Lincoln; daughter and son-in-law Bonnie and Tim Hotz-McMahon of Lincoln; son and daughter-in-law Fred and Pat Hotz of Grand Island; son and daughter-in-law Rick and Carmelita Hotz of Olathe, KS; son and daughter-in-law Rob and Marianne Hotz of Lincoln; brother and sister-in-law Dick and Aline Hotz of Springfield, MO; brother Don Hotz of Tucson, AZ; sister and brother-in-law Margaret and Lyle Henrichs of Wymore, NE; and sister and brother-in-law Mary Alice and Kenneth Jones of Lincoln. Also surviving are 7 granddaughters, Trista and her husband Duane Smith, Kari and her husband Justin Larsen, Ashley, Shannon, Bradi, Riley and Annie; 8 grandsons, Isaac, Wil, Robbie, Philip, Rico, Robbie, Matthew and Calvin; and 6 great grandsons, Keegan, Tanner, Brennen, Evan, McCade & McCullen. He was preceded in death by his parents Herbert Weslie and Margaret Fern (Ward) Hotz, step mother, Bessie (Tincher) Hotz and grandson Michael Card Hotz. Bill was born in Omaha Nebraska December 4, 1924 and moved to Wymore, NE in his early life where he graduated from Wymore High School in 1943. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII from June of 1943 to June of 1946 and returned to school at Nebraska Wesleyan where he married Wilma Wilma O. Boyer in 1947 and graduated in 1950. After teaching in Parks, NE and Atwood, KS, they moved to Grand Island in 1960. He served as principal at Wasmer Elementary School for 15 years and then Newell Elementary School until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Chruch, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #164 at Atwood, KS, served in the Lions Club, Toastmasters, the YMCA, and the Nebraska Association for Elementary School Principals. Bill enjoyed (competing in) golf, racquet-ball, tennis, bowling, playing card games and all the recess games at school. He also coached or officiated basketball, football, baseball and wrestling.
