HOUGH, Arthur D.


Arthur D. Hough, 81, of Grand Island, died Wednesday morning, June 30, 2004, at his home following a long illness. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 2, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. at the Grand Island Cemetery. Rev. Nancy Lambert will officiate. There will be no public visitation. Livingston-Sondermann Funeral home is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Hough was born June 10, 1923 at Council Bluffs, Iowa the son of Darius and Faustina (Daugherty) Hough. He received his education in Miller, Nebraska graduating in 1940. He was united in marriage to Vera N. Cool in 1942 in Phillipsburg, Kansas. On August 6, 1943 he entered the U.S. Navy and served until his discharge on Dec. 22, 1945. He received the Victory Medal, American Area Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon while serving in the Navy. After his discharge from the Navy the couple lived in Miller, Nebraska, Hastings, Kearney, and Alma before coming to Grand Island. He was employed at New Holland for over 20 years retiring in 1987. He enjoyed fishing, traveling in his RV, woodworking and was an avid coin collector and collected belt buckles. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, VFW club, Alma Volunteer Fire Department, Rolling Eagles Camping Club and an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #378 being a trustee held numerous positions and offices. He was selected father of the year for the Eagles for 2002-03. Survivors include his wife Vera, one daughter and son-in-law Deanna and Mike Thompson of Poulsbo, Washington and a three sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Linda Hough of Grand Island, Donald and Cheryl Hough of Kearney and Marlyn and Jane Hough of York. Also left to cherish his memory are 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Carson.
