Lavon M. Nielsen, 81, of Grand Island, died Saturday, June 26, 2004 at the Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 1:30 P.M. at Calvary Lutheran Church. The Rev. Sheri Lodel will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 4:00 until 6:00 P.M. Mrs. Nielsen was born on May 3, 1923 in Farwell, Nebraska to Claus and Emma (Carstens) Lemburg. Survivors of the immediate family include one daughter and son-in-law, LaNaya & William Wright of Salt Lake City, Utah. Additional survivors include two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous dear cousins. Mrs. Nielsen received her education in Nysted and Dannebrog, graduating from Dannebrog High School. She then attended St. Paul Business College. She was then employed by the Department of the Navy in Washington D.C. She married Ralph F. Nielsen on July 8, 1943 in Grand Island. She was then employed at the V.A. Hospital. The couple then moved to Umatilla, Oregon where she was employed at the Umatilla Army Depot. They then moved to Tooele, Utah, and she was employed at the Tooele Army Depot. The couple retired in 1979, and returned to Grand Island. She enjoyed playing cards, and playing bingo. Mrs. Nielsen was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, the Liederkranz, and the Platte-Duetsche. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband in 1998.
