Arlene Gutschow, 53, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, June 23, 2004 at her home. Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic church. The Rev. Francis Curran will officiate. Burial will be at Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 until 5:00 P.M. with a 2:00 P.M. rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Gutschow was born on August 21, 1950 in Kearney, Nebraska to Lloyd and Edna (Larkin) Szafrajda. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband Lester of Grand Island; one son & daughter-in-law, Criss and Rhonda Gutschow of Grand Island; four daughters and son-in-law, Tammy & Tim Haumont of Grand Island, Cheryl Gutchow of Grand Island, Lisa Fieldgrove and special friend, Paul Tucker of Aubarn, Maine, and Tina Gutschow and special friend, Samuel Gonzalez of Grand Island. Additional survivors include 12 grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and four great-step grandchildren; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann & Wayne Bockman of Grand Island, Karen & Roy Bockman of St. Paul, Carolee & Jose Garcia of Iowa, Ruth & Richard Hernandez of Scottsbluff, and Joan Thulin of Grand Island; one brother, Alan Szafrajda of Grand Island; her aunt, Viola Lieth of Grand Island, and special friends, Marvin & Norma Sinner of Grand Island. Mrs. Gutschow received her education in Gibbon and graduated in 1968. She married Lester Gutschow on June 13, 1970 in Shelton. The couple lived in Wood River, then Kansas, and then returned to Grand Island. Mrs. Gutschow was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She enjoyed traveling, camping, working puzzles, spending time with her grandchildren, cooking, and doing things for others. She was preceded in death by her parents.
