Katherine A. Denny, 87, of Grand Island, died Sunday, June 13, 2004 at the Tiffany Square Care Center. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Denny was born on December 11, 1916 to John & Lydia (Miller) Herrmann at their farm home near Dallas South Dakota. Survivors of the immediate family include her son Robert and his wife Lorraine of Seward, Nebraska; two sisters, Marie Palmer of Winner, South Dakota, and Gladys Rajewich of Gregory, South Dakota; and one brother, Vernon Herrmann of Millboro, South Dakota. Additional survivors include grandchildren Robin Kuhlman, Michael Zook, Paul Denny and Katherine (Katy) Denny, and great-grandchildren, Allison, Jacob, and Carlie Kuhlman, and Natalie and Rachael Zook; two sister-in-laws, Ruth Malone, and Irene Herrmann, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Denny received her elementary education at a rural school and attended high school in Dallas, South Dakota. She then worked at Mollie’s Café in Gregory, and also assisted with housework for area families. She married William Denny on October 19, 1936 in Dallas, South Dakota. The couple lived at Dallas and Gregory before moving to Gothenburg, Nebraska and later to Grand Island. Katherine was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Mary’s Altar Society, and also belonged to the Grand Island chapter of the NFB. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1991, her daughter, Ruth Zook; brothers, Walter, Erwin, and Robert, an infant brother, Harold; and a nephew Larry Herrmann.
