Wanda F. Stenka, 87, of Grand Island, died Thursday, June 3, 2004, at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Services will be at 10:30 A.M. Monday June 7, 2004, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Francis T. Curran will officiate. She will be buried alongside her husband, Edward in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Sunday with a 7 p.m. rosary/wake service at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The casket will be closed. Mrs. Stenka was born Feb. 13, 1917, to Joseph and Annie (Rochwich) Lubash in the rural Ashton area.She attended Dist.12 school in Sherman County through the 8th grade. She married Edward Stenka on July 14, 1942, at St. Josephat’s Catholic Church in Loup City. Wanda was a farmer’s wife and homemaker from 1946 to 1972, when they moved to Grand Island in 1974. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, playing cards, dominos and bingo. She also was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Church and the altar society. She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Judy Hanzel of Platte Center, and Donna and Rich Gappa of Grand Island; and one sister, Evelyn Kosmicki of St. Paul. Others survivors include six grandchildren, Mike and Bridget Hanzel of Platte Center, Ed and Kandi Hanzel and Audrey and Dan Blaser of Columbus, Steph Gappa of Kearney, and Stacy and Suzanne Gappa of New York; 11 great-grandchildren; and two special little grand-dogs, Abby and Rudy. She was preceded in death by her husband in June of 1998, a great-grandson, Kyle Blaser; one son-in-law, Dennis Hanzel; one brother, Louie and one special grand-dog, Auggie.
