Services for Lance Corporal Kyle W. Codner,19, of Shelton, Nebraska, who lost his life on Wednesday, May 26 2004 in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq, will be held Friday, June 4, 2004 at 10:30 A.M. at the Shelton High School in Shelton, Nebraska. Rev. John Ewton will officiate. Visitation will be Thursday, June 3, 2004 from 4-8 P.M. at the United Methodist Church of Shelton. The family will receive friends from 6-8 P.M. Burial will be in the Shelton Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Kyle Codner Scholarship Fund, United Methodist Church of Shelton or the Shelton Fire and Rescue. Kyle was born March 2, 1985 in Grand Island the son of Wain and Dixie (Shupe) Codner. He grew up on a farm east of Shelton and graduated from Shelton High School in 2003. Kyle was involved in sports, speech and drama and active in his church’s youth group. He joined the U. S. Marine Corps on June 16, 2003 and was deployed to Iraq in February of this year. Kyle was an active member the United Methodist Church of Shelton. Survivors include his parents, Wain and Dixie Codner of Shelton, a sister Melissa Codner of Shelton, his fiancée, Megan Kirkover of Shelton, grandparents; Del and Doris Shupe and Louise Codner all of Grand Island. He is also survived by aunts and uncles; A.C. Codner, Darren and Cindy Shupe, Doug and Jerri Shupe and Darla Graper. He was preceded in death by his grandfather George Codner.
