Marian J. McKibben, 83, of Grand Island died Saturday, May 22, 2004 at the Tiffany Square Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Jim Keyser will officiate. Burial will be at the Grand Island City Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with the family receiving friends from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Mrs. McKibben was born on October 27, 1920 in Hall County, Nebraska to Walter & Mollie (Paustian) Hansen. Survivors of the family include a brother, Edward Hansen of Omaha; five nieces, Shirley Schroeder, Judy Ault, Barbara Frauen, Annette Hovland, and Marsha Bartlett all of Grand Island; and two nephews, Donald Owings of Grand Island, and Jerry Hansen of Lincoln. Mrs. McKibben attended school at District #18 in Prairie Creek Township, and grew up in that area. She moved with her parents to Grand Island in 1936 and worked for Model Laundry. She married Neal McKibben on August 7, 1941 in Grand Island. Mr. McKibben entered the armed services in 1943, and was killed in action in Okinawa on April 8, 1945. She then made her home with her parents. After her mother’s death in 1965, she maintained the family home for her father until his death on July 14, 1978. Mrs. McKibben enjoyed listening to polka music, playing cards, and taking care of animals that couldn’t take care of themselves. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Ethel Rauert, Gertrude Owings, and an infant sister, Evelyn. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice or to the Central Nebraska Humane Society.
