COOK, Merlin L.


Merlin L. Cook, 77, of Central City died Saturday, May 15, 2004, at Litzenberg Memorial Hospital in Central City. Memorial services will be Saturday May 22, 2004, at 11:00 A.M. at the First United Methodist Church in Albion. The Rev. Terry Otto will officiate. Private committal services will be in the Rosehill Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Mr. Cook’s body was cremated. Mr. Cook was born November 28, 1926, in rural Boone County, Nebraska to George and Laura (Miller) Cook. He grew up in rural Boone County, attended District 89 School and Albion High School. He moved to Washington State to pursue employment. He married Darlon Matchett on December 9, 1953, while living in Washington. In 1957, he returned to Nebraska. He farmed, worked as a truck driver, and later did anhydrous application for BV 82 in Albion. He also worked at the Conoco station in Albion. He then lived in Schuyler and worked in the packing plant and most recently had lived in Central City and worked in maintenance for Monfort in Grand Island. Mr. Cook enjoyed playing pool with his many friends. Immediate survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Wayne Andreason of Pierce, NE, Barbara and Larry Oetken of Norfolk, one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Gayla Cook of Norfolk; and one sister, Marlene Schademann of Geneva, NE. Other survivors include eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and his friend, Doris Majerus of Central City. He was preceded in death by six brothers, Lester, Eldon, Gerald, Ed, Virgil and William Cook; two sisters, Mildred Harbottle and Goldie Cook; and one great- grandson.
