HERMAN LEMP AND DAUGHTER RITES WED.
Herman Lemp, Jr. was born near Columbus on January 27, 1936 the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lemp, Sr. His mother, the former Lydia Bohler, was born and reared in Switzerland.
He received his elementary education at District 8 School and was graduated in 1953 from Duncan High School where he participated in basketball and other sports.
A member of Highland Park Evangelical Free Church, he was head usher, missionary treasurer of the church and a leader in the Boys Brigade.
He was a member of the Naval Reserve the last seven years and was a member of the American Rifle Association.
On March 16, 1957 he married Shirley Ann Picard in Omaha. An infant son, James Allen, died Feb. 11, 1958 shortly after birth. Their daughter, June Alice, was born June 12, 1960 in Columbus.
His mother passed away January 24, 1954.
Mr. Lemp and his 6-month-old daughter were killed in an traffic accident December 23, 1960.
He was 24 years of age. His wife, also involved in the accident was taken to St. Mary's Hospital in a critical condition, but she is now listed in a satisfactory condition.
Other survivors are his father, Herman Sr., and stepmother, Mrs. Ruth Froberg Lemp of Columbus; two sisters, Mrs. Robert (Lucille) Killham of Shelby, Mrs. Carroll (Doris) Melliger of Columbus; three brothers, Harold of Silver Creek, Kenneth of Columbus and Donald, a student at the State Technical School at Milford; one step-sister, Mrs. Lawrence (Nancy) Balmer of Granada, Minn; 15 nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Mr. Lemp was a popular young man and the esteem in which he was held by his many friends, and all who knew him was attested by one of the largest crowds ever to attend a funeral in this area.
Funeral services in charge of the Gass Funeral Home were held for Mr. Lemp and his daughter at 2 P.M. Wednesday, December 28, 1960 at the Highland Park Evangelical Free Church in Columbus with Rev. Earl Gunsolley officiating.
Pallbearers for Mr. Lemp were Don Blaser, Don Kummer, Ron Blaser, Walter Oppliger, Quentin Tiaden and Roger Watke.
Pallbearers for his daughter June were Terry Miller, Ted Killham, Mike Oglevie and Ron Gunsolley.
Interment was in the Greutli Cemetery.
