ALDEN, Hazel B.


Hazel Alden, formerly of Aurora, died Monday, April 2, 2001, in Missoula, Montana. A Memorial Service was held in Missoula followed by cremation. Her ashes were buried in the Aurora Cemetery in the DeWater's family plot. OBITUARY: HAZEL ALDEN Hazel B. Alden, the daughter of Bert and Ione (DeWaters) Alden, was born in Aurora, Nebraska on April 22, 1900 and died in Missoula, Montana on April 2, 2001, at the age of 100 years. Hazel attended grade and high school in Aurora, of which she was a graduate of the Class of 1918. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with a major in music. Accompanied by her late mother, and after graduating from the University of Nebraska, Hazel spent one year teaching vocal music at the Deer Lodge, Montana High School. She then joined the faculty of School District 1 in Missoula, Montana, where she taught until her retirement, June 1964. After her retirement, Hazel traveled to foreign countries of the Atlantic and Pacific regions. Miss Alden was prominent in Missoula as a vocal soloist and was a choir member at the First Presbyterian Church. She directed the choir at the First Baptist Church there for some 10 years. Hazel was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota, national music honorary at the University of Nebraska. She was also a member of Eta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma at Missoula, an educational honorary; a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the United Presbyterian Woman's Association as well as the Retired Teachers' Association, all of Missoula.
