OBITUARY: WILBUR AKERSON
Wilbur Charles Akerson, the son of George and Ruth (Sundberg) Akerson, was born on a farm northwest of Aurora, Nebraska on June 7, 1915 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on November 28, 1999, at the age of 84 years, 4 months and 13 days.
He attended country school and graduated from Aurora High School in 1933. He started farming out of high school and farmed until serving in the Armed Forces in World War II. After he was discharged, he returned to farming.
Wilbur was united in marriage to Nelda Read on October 5, 1951. He farmed until he retired in 1977. Farming was his life. After retiring, he never missed a day going out to see what was going on at the farm. He always said, “If you couldn’t farm the land it was no good.” When harvest was on, he’d be out riding in the combine. In the winter he liked going with his nephew, Ron, to what they called junking. He liked going places and to be on the go. When his health allowed him, he loved to travel, some of his favorite spots to go were Estes Park, The Black Hills and California.
He was a member of the Christian Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed the outdoors.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Willis.
He is survived by his wife, Nelda of Aurora and sister, Alice Athey of San Francisco, California and nieces and nephews.
