Lloyd C. Schnase, 93 years from Kearney died on Saturday, December 11, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Lloyd was born on September 27, 1917 in Blue Hill, Nebraska. In 1924 he moved to Buffalo County. He was confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in Kearney in March of 1932. He attended Zion Parochial School and the A. O. Thomas High School in Kearney. Lloyd was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army from 1941 until 1945. He served with the 45th Division in the European Theater. Lloyd married Verona Westberg on August 14, 1942 in Ayer, Massachusetts. After he was discharged from the army they moved to the Lowell area. Lloyd farmed in that area from 1948 until 1988. That year they moved to their home near the Minden interchange. Verona died December 11, 2001. Lloyd moved to Kearney in 2006. Lloyd was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church near Lowell. Lloyd loved being around his family. He enjoyed UNK sporting events and visiting with friends. Memorials are suggested to the UNK Athletic Department or the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lowell. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Wilson and her husband, Stan, Pat Skeen and her husband, Glen and Kathy Horvath and her husband, John all of Kearney; one son, Randy Schnase and his wife, Mary of Kearney; 7 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; four sisters, Doris Krolikowski of Wood River, LaVerda Stutzman of Wellman, Iowa, Maxine Krolikowski of Kearney and Wanda Monson and her husband, Gene of Wood River; and one brother, Don Schnase and his wife, Grace of Cairo. He is preceded in death by his wife, Verona and one brother, Marvin. Funeral services will be on Thursday, December 16, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with Rev. Thomas Macky officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the Minden American Legion, Heartwell VFW and the National Guard.
