FRECKS, Alfred H.


Alfred H. Frecks, age 84, of Hildreth, Nebraska died on Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. He was born on January 13, 1926 in Franklin County, Nebraska on the family farm near Hildreth to Louis C. and Jennie (Groothuis) Frecks. Alfred was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church at Hildreth. He graduated from Hildreth High School in 1943. After graduating from high school he worked and farmed before being called to serve his country in the Korean War. After returning from Korea, Alfred farmed and was part owner of Wendell-Frecks Construction Co. On August 12, 1962 he married DeLayne Fritson of Macon at the Zion Lutheran Church west of Macon. They made their home near Hildreth. To this union two children were born, Teresa and Gregory. Alfred also worked as a mechanic for Schwartz Bros. Implement in Hildreth and later the Minden Terminal. After leaving the Minden Terminal, he farmed until retiring, but continued helping his son, Greg, on the farm until his death. Alfred was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth and was a member of VFW Post 6016, the American Legion and the Hildreth Lions Club. He was Chairman of the Salem Township Board and a member of the Franklin County Planning and Zoning Commission. Through the years he served on the St. Peter's Lutheran Church council and the board of directors of the local Farmers Coop. Alfred enjoyed farming, fixing things on the farm, reading his e-mail, and watching RFD-TV. He also enjoyed traveling as he and DeLayne were able to enjoy trips to many places when he was a Super Crost seed corn dealer. Survivors include daughter, Teresa Frecks; son, Greg Frecks, both of Hildreth; sister, Luella Lammers and her husband, William of Grand Junction, Colorado; brother-in-law, Howard Hohlen and his wife, Melodee of Hastings; brother-in-law, Johnny Fritson and his wife, Donnie of Macon; sister-in-law Evonne Kubert and her husband, Marvin of Wood River; sister-in-law, Vivian Cook of Kearney, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, and “granddog”, Foster. He was preceded in death by his wife, DeLayne, his parents, one sister, Carol Hohlen and brother-in-law, Delmar Fritson. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hildreth with Reverends Steve and Patti Byrne officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery at Hildreth. Visitation will be at the Jelden-Craig Funeral Home in Hildreth on Tuesday from 3-5 and 7-8 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, the Hildreth Volunteer Fire Department, Golden Years Center, Hildreth Library Expansion Project, or donor's choice.
