Funeral Services in St. Luke's
M. E. Church Friday
A stroke of paralysis suffered Monday morning, Dec 11, proved fatal to Mrs. Sarah Boyers, who passed away about 8 o'clock Tuesday evening, Dec 12, in the David City hospital. She was ages 68 years, 11 months and 12 days.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon in St. Luke's M.E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. L. Van Metre. A quartet, Mrs. G. H. Penrod, Mrs. James Lawson, Guy From, and John Eberly, sang "No Night There," "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Good Night and Good Morning." Mrs. Charles Jonas was organist. The pallbearers were Tom Beirlie, J.G. Duncan, Clyde Jones, Edgar Mahlin, Floyd Want and Ray Ziehr. Burial was in the David City cemetery.
In attendance at the funeral from elsewhere were Mr. and Mrs. O. A. Lemon of Greeley, Colo., John Kilgore of Burlington, Iowa, Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie of Sumner, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Kilgore and Mrs. John Ganna of Lincoln, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Kilgore of Ulysses and Mrs. Vinton Clark of Shelby.
Sarah Ann Kilgore, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Kilgore, was born in Yorktown, Pa., December 31, 1870. As a child she came to Nebraska and Butler county with her parents, the trip made by covered wagon. They settled near Brainard, in the Ware community, and there she grew to young womanhood and was married in Brainard to William Boyers February 10, 1895. To them were born five children, three daughters and two sons, of whom one son, Harry, passed away June 2, 1936. The surviving children are Mrs. Gretta Harris, Lincoln, Mrs. Glen Armagost and Lee Boyers of David City and Mrs. Ernest Suddarth of Rising City. All with their families were present at the funeral. Mr. Boyers died July 11, 1926.
Beside her children, Mrs. Boyers leaves seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren; three brothers, John Kilgore of Burlington, Iowa, Simon Kilgore of Lincoln, and Harry Kilgore of Rising City; one half-brother, Evan Thomas of Burlington, Iowa. One brother, Martin Kilgore of David City, preceded her in death.
Mr. and Mrs. Boyers lived near Brainard for a number of years after their marriage and moved to a farm seven miles west of David City in 1906, retiring from farm life and moving to David City in 1931. Mrs. Boyers was a faithful and active member of St. Luke's M.E. church and the Social Union, was devoted to her home and children, was a good neighbor and always ready to help those in need, and had many friends.
