CHRISTENSEN, Edwin Leroy


Edwin Leroy Christensen, 85, of Minden, died Saturday, September 18, 2010, at Kearney County Health Services, Long Term Care in Minden. Edwin was born July 27, 1925, to Peter and Ruth (Maucher) Christensen on the family farm northeast of Minden that was originally settled by Ruth's parents. He attended District 8 Country School and served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952. On August 5, 1954, he married Maxine Sorensen at the bride's home southeast of Norman. At the time of the marriage, Edwin's parents moved from the family farm into Minden and Edwin and Maxine lived on the farm together for 55 years, where they raised their four children. Edwin always enjoyed farm life. When his health did not permit, they moved into Minden in August 2009 where he lived until April 2010 when he went to Long Term Care with AseraCare hospice services. Edwin was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Minden and a 56 year member of the same Some'R'Set card club. After retirement, he enjoyed playing cards at the senior center and having coffee with his many friends around town. He always enjoyed spending time with his family and was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife, Maxine of Minden; daughters Karen Duester and husband Gregg of Del Mar, California, Marcia Harris and husband Steve of Superior, Colorado, and Linda Burgett and husband Brian of Urbandale, Iowa; daughter-in-law Liz Christensen of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren Patrick Christensen and wife Brooke of Allen, Texas, Tommy Christensen and wife Susanna of Irving, Texas, David Burgett of Maryland Heights, Missouri, Katie Jo and Amy Burgett of Iowa City, Iowa, and Nicole and Michael Harris of Superior, Colorado; sister-in-law Marie Christensen of Minden; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son and granddaughter Ronald and Rachel Christensen in 2004; one brother Orval Christensen and four sisters Velma Landstrom, Dorothy Taylor, Hazel Jepsen, and Frances Wilkinson. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, September 21st at 11am at the Minden United Methodist Church with Pastor Nancy Lambert officiating. Burial will precede the service at the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8pm on Monday, at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home with the family present. Memorials are suggested to Minden United Methodist Church, AseraCare Hospice, Long Term Care, the Minden Senior Center, or donor's choice.
