Richard D. Hansen, 58 years of age from Minden, NE died on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Richard was born on January 12, 1952 to Ingward and Mary (Frecks) Hansen in Minden, Nebraska. He grew up in the Minden area and graduated from Minden High School. In May of 1970 he was injured in an implement accident and was paralyzed from the waist down. He spent over a year in the hospital. On April 23, 1977 he married Deloris Martinez and they lived in Minden. Richard worked for the Public County Safety Authority in Minden as a police and fire dispatcher for 15 years. He went to work for the Holdrege Police Department as a dispatcher until retiring in 2001. Richard was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church in Minden and the Nebraska Emergency Communications Association. He enjoyed competition shooting and attained Master Class status and a position in the Governors top 20 for the state of Nebraska. He collected coins, loved to cook, build classic cars, gardening, photography and carpentry. His family says he was a “jack of all trades”. Above all he was devoted to his family. A memorial fund has been established in his name. Survivors include two sons, Justin Hansen and his wife, Cheryl of Memphis, TN and Samuel Hansen and his wife, Jessica of Minden; five grandchildren, Autumn, Evalynn and Julia Hansen and Grace and Victoria Hansen; life long love, Margaret Loschen Carlson of Minden; ex-wife, Deloris Hansen of Minden; two brothers, Ronald Hansen and his wife, Barbara of Minden and Royce Hansen of Hastings; and one sister, Joyce Rundle and her husband Greg of Mexico, New York. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church with Rev. Donald Hunzeker officiating. Burial will be in the Keene Evangelical Cemetery, Keene, Nebraska. Visitation will be on Tuesday at the Layton-Craig Funeral Home in Minden from 3-5 and 7-8 p.m.
