Veronica K. ‘Vernie’ Shuda, 74, of Grand Island, died Thursday, April 29, 2003 at the Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral services will be on Monday at 10:00 A.M. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Francis Curran will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with a 6:00 P.M. rosary at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Mrs. Shuda was born on December 28, 1929 in Elba, Nebraska to Michael and Valeria (Duester) Marshalek. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Clarence of Grand Island; three daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne & John Schulte of Wood River, Janet & Allen Glass of Ephrata, Pennsylvania, and Karen Shuda of Grand Island; two sons and daughter-in-law, Ken & Christy Shuda of Grand Island, and David Shuda of Grand Island; two sisters, Martha Mills and Anna Marshalek of Grand Island. Additional survivors include 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Shuda received her education in Elba. She married Clarence Shuda on October 24, 1950 in Elba. After their marriage, the couple farmed near Wood River for six years. They moved to Grand Island in 1956. Mrs. Shuda enjoyed polka dancing, birds, flowers, gardening, caring for stray animals, and especially loved family get-togethers. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, the Altar Society, the Eagles Club, and the Platte-Duetsche. Mrs. Shuda was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, and one sister. Memorials are suggested to the family.
