Evelyn Quandt Peterson, 84, of Grand Island, died Friday, April 9, 2004 at her daughter’s home near Raymond, Nebraska. Funeral services will be on Tuesday at 10:30 A.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Ron Benson, and the Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M. Burial will be at the Wiegert Cemetery northeast of Grand Island. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Peterson was born on November 3, 1919 at Grand Island to Ferdinand and Clara (Dankert) Heider. Survivors of the immediate family include one son and daughter-in-law, Allen & Carol Quandt of Chapman; two daughters and sons-in-law, Gerri Ault and Gene Thompson of Raymond, Nebraska, and Debra & Paul Smedra of Hickman, Nebraska; step-daughter, LaVonne Peterson of Kearney; five step-sons and daughters-in-law, Rodney Peterson of Texas, Harlan & Sylvina Quandt of Loup City, Loyal & Lorene Quandt of Lincoln, Beverly Quandt of Grand Island, Ralph Quandt of Grand Island, and Raymond & Carol Ann Quandt of Grand Island; three brothers, Elmer Heider and Herbert Heider of Grand Island, and Daniel Heider of California; three sisters, Irene Heider and Alice Weber of Grand Island, and Anna Bandimere of California. Additional survivors include 37 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson. Mrs. Peterson received her education in Hall County. She married Walter Quandt on February 7, 1941 in Grand Island. The couple moved to Loup City in 1962. Walter died in April of 1971. She remained in Grand Island until her marriage to Ola Peterson in 1978. The couple lived in Kearney until the time of Ola’s death. She then returned to Grand Island. Mrs. Peterson was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, the Altar Guild, the Lutheran Layman League, the Golden Years, the Serving Circle, and the Bible Study Class. She loved to sing, and sang with her sister Irene at several nursing homes. She was also involved in the foster-grandparents program at Trinity Lutheran School. Evelyn also loved to travel, and especially quilt. She made and donated lap-quilts to residents at nursing homes, and many quilts were sent to missionaries on foreign fields. She also made several quilts for auction at Heartland Lutheran High School. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; one daughter, Patricia Quandt; one step-son, Loran Quandt; two granddaughters, Shelly Erhart and Nancy Hupp; and two brothers, Herman Heider and Raymond Heider. Memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran High School or to the Lutheran Hour.
