Helen B. Maxson, 85, of Grand Island, died Monday, April 5, 2004 at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Rev. Tom Ryan will officiate. Burial will be at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P. M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home, with a Catholic Daughters Rosary at 4:00 P.M. and a parish Rosary at 6:00 P.M. Mrs. Maxson was born on February 5, 1919 in Campbell, Nebraska to Roland and Alice (Choquette) L’Heureux. Survivors of the immediate family include one daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Doug Somer of Grand Island; and one sister, Pauline Stoffa of Ardmore, Oklahoma. Mrs. Maxson received her education at Campbell, Nebraska. She married Philip McGerty in 1944 in Los Angeles, California. Mr. McGerty died in 1954. She moved to Grand Island and was employed at the Bosselman Eaton Café. She married Lester Maxson on September 14, 1973 in Grand Island. Mrs. Maxson was then employed at the Balcony Lounge, and then at the Interstate Holiday Inn. She retired in 1987. She enjoyed gardening, singing, and playing cards. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral; and the Catholic Daughters of The Americas Court Ave Maria #1263. She was preceded in death by her two husbands; one daughter, Diana McGerty; two brothers, Raymond L’Heureux and Paul L’Heureux; and one sister, Cecelia Thoma. Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
