Dorothy L. Asher, 82, of Grand Island, died Monday, March 22, 2004 at Beverly Healthcare at Park Place. Funeral services will be on Wednesday at 2:30 P.M. at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. The Rev. Francis Curran will officiate. Burial will be at the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 until 8:00 P.M. with at 4:00 P.M. Catholic Daughters Rosary at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mrs. Asher was born on May 26, 1921 in Grand Island to Alexander and Susie (Davis) Skibinski. Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn & Dennis Michalski of Grand Island; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald & Sherry) Summers of Grand Island, and Rick & Linda Summers of Kearney; two brothers, James Skibinski and Jerry Skibinski both of California; five sisters, Delores Clark of Colorado, Helen O’Neill of Texas, Loveda Proctor of Aurora, Patricia Proctor of Grand Island, and Ethel Hehnke of Ravenna. Additional survivors include 11 grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Asher received her education in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High in 1939. She was then employed at the Twin Rivers Egg Plant. She married William R. Summers. She then worked in the meat department at the north Skagway store for over 10 years. She married Bert M. Asher in 1962. She was then employed at the Nebraska Veterans Home for over 8 years. Mrs. Asher enjoyed drawing, and working with ceramics. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Ave Maria #1263. She was preceded in death by a half-brother, Benjamin Dau; and two sisters, Irene Schuck, and Rita Wilson. Memorials are suggested to Park Place Nursing Center.
