Stephen “Steve” R. Schuller, 56, of Grand Island died Thursday, March 04, 2004, at his home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary’s Cathedral. The Rev. Phil Flott will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery with military rites provided by the U.S. Army Honor Guard of Ft. Riley, Kansas. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 8,2004, with a 6:15 p.m. rosary/wake service at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home. Mr. Schuller was born August 18, 1947, at Poole, NE to Frank and Elizabeth (Pokorney) Schuller. He grew up on a farm near Poole and attended school in Pleasanton, NE graduating in 1964. He attended the National Electronics Institute in Denver in 1965. Steve was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 serving in Vietnam. He earned promotions to the rank of Staff Sergeant and received numerous awards and commendations. Following his active service, he served in the Army Reserves and the National Guard for a total of 19 years. He married Betty Scheiding in 1967. In later years, he married Maria Gladys Rodriguez. Steve was a member of the Am Vets in Grand Island and had served as vice commander. He was also a member of VFW Post # 759. He is survived by his wife, Maria of Grand Island; one daughter, Desa Tucker of Lincoln; his mother, Elizabeth Schuller of Ravenna; two grandchildren, Elliott and Ashley Tucker of Lincoln; one brother, Wendell of Omaha; and one sister and brother-in-law, Alice and John Holmgren of Golden, CO. He was preceded in death by his father and two infant daughters.
