MCLAUGHLIN, Francis L

Francis L. McLaughlin, 88, of Grand Island, died Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island. Funeral Mass will be held Monday , January 19, 2004, at 10:30 A.M. in the chapel of the Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home in Grand Island with Rev. Tom Ryan officiating. A rosary will be recited prior to the mass at 10:00 A.M. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. Mr. McLaughlin was born September 2, 1915 to Francis and Clara (Kernan) McLaughlin in Sarronville, Nebraska. In 1918 the family moved to Hastings, Nebraska. Mr. McLaughlin graduated from Hastings High School and attended Hastings College. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946 in the South Pacific as attaining the rank of Captain. In 1946 he moved to Grand Island and became a partner in the Kernan Shoe Co. until 1957 when he became sole owner and manager. In 1947, he married Mary Arthurs of Kearney. Mr. McLaughlin retired in 1992. He was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Riverside Golf Club, Grand Island Saddle Club, American Legion and the United Veteran's Club. He is survived by his wife Mary. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
