Joe Claybaugh, 91, of Wayne, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2012 at a Sioux City, Iowa hospital. Memorial services will be held Thursday, Nov. 29 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Wayne. Memorial visitation will be held Thursday from 9 a.m. to service time at the church with family present. Joe Claybaugh born Aug 12, 1921, in Clay Center, and was raised in Lincoln. He has had a full life, being involved in many different activities He was in WWII and retired as a Captain. He finished his Ag Econ degree from UNL. After graduating from Lincoln in 1943, he was a County Agent in Woodbury County Iowa and was involved with 4-H. He worked with chickens and was a Cage House Manager. He was then was hired by Dekalb Ag where he was a Regional Manager on the east coast and then was asked to come to the main office in DeKalb, Ill. where he worked as Poultry Management Consultant and worked in the field in Japan, the South Pacific, and Mexico as well as Europe. While at DeKalb Ag he helped to write a book on the “History of Poultry,” writing a chapter on ventilation. After taking early retirement in 1976 he moved to Wayne County, Nebraska where he started TWJ Farms. From one corporation it developed into four entities — TWJ Farms, TWJ Feeds, Nebraska Eggs, and Carroll Trucking. The four entities included farmland, chickens, a mil, and cattle. Throughout his life, he belonged to the Methodist Church, was active in The American Egg Board in the 90’s, in NPI (Nebraska Poultry Industries), and UEP (United Egg Producers) as well as a trustee on the Foundation Board at Wayne State College. Survivors include two children, William “Bill” and Julie, both of Carroll; one older sister, Helen (Austin) Mutz from Denver Colo., a younger brother Glenn (Mary Lou) Claybaugh of Evansville, Ind.; six nieces and nephews; six step-children, Bill, Jeanette, Richard, Bob, Susan and Tom Ruyle; and eight step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his nephew, George Austin Mutz; his parents, Joe H. and Helen Claybaugh; his mother-in-law, Julia L. Herman; his first wife, Twila Herman Claybaugh; one brother-in-law, Leland Herman, and his second wife, Mona Van Camp Ruyle Claybaugh. Honorary pallbearers will be TWJ Farms staff, Richard Woslager, Butch Carlson, Ray Junck, Alice Rohde, Delbert Claussen, Charlie Morris, Stan Morris, Greg Owens and Merlin “Butch” Felt. Burial will be on Saturday, Dec. 8 at the Wakefield Cemetery in Wakefield. Hasemann Funeral Home of Wayne of Wayne is in charge of arrangements.
