Thomas Patrick Furey, age 86, of Omaha, passed away Friday, at Lakeside
Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born at home in Florence,
NE, to Thomas Patrick and Helen Furey, Sr. He attended Technical High of
Omaha and the University of Nebraska Omaha. During 1944-1946, he
served in the United States Navy. Upon returning home, he married his wife
of 63 years, Alice (Hawkes). Tom was civic and community-minded. He was
considered the "Unofficial Mayor of Florence" and personally oversaw the
betterment of the Florence area. Tom served as President of the North
Omaha Commercial Club; North Omaha Chapter of the Greater Omaha
Chamber of Commerce; and served on the Permits and Inspection Board for
the City of Omaha. He was awarded the Greater Omaha Chamber of
Commerce's Golden Spike Award; and the Admiralship of the Nebraska Navy
by Governor Ben Nelson. Tom also served as a member of the St. Philip Neri
Parish Council in Omaha. Tom founded Furey Heating and Air Conditioning,
Inc., located in Florence, NE for 45 years. He was a member of the Sheet
Metal & Air Conditioning Contractors National Association, and served as
local chapter President and then on the National Board. He loved travel,
golf, and tennis. He is preceded in death by parents, Thomas Patrick and
Helen Furey, Sr.; and brothers, Richard and John. He is survived by wife,
Alice; children, Lorraine (Furey) Kolasinski (Charles), and Patricia (Furey)
Lane (Jon); grandchildren, Sarah Willeford (Chad), Alicia Bragg (Sean), and
Danielle Spatz (Dylan); 4 great grandchildren, Connor, Gwenyth, Jackson,
and Mackennah; brother-in-law, Richard Hawkes (Janice); sisters, Geraldine
Bash, and Rita Bachmann (Orvil); and many dearly loved nieces, nephews
and friends.
Family will receive friends Sunday 4-6pm at West Center Chapel, with
WAKE SERVICE at 6pm. MASS of CHRISTIAN BURIAL Monday 10:30am at
St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church. Private Interment. Memorials suggested to
St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Christian Urban Education Services
