(Maiden Name: Andersen)
Ann Marie Olson was born to Henry T. and Clara (Andersen) Olsen on
April 3, 1935. She passed away February 14, 2018 at her home in
Lyons, Nebraska, at the age of 82.
Born in rural Lyons, she spent her early years with her family on a
farm near the Blackbird community. She attended the country school
of Edgington and graduated from Lyons High School in 1952.
Ann married Gary Olson on November 22, 1953. They farmed near Bertha
in rural Burt County before moving to Lyons in 1968.
Ann worked hard her entire life as a dedicated wife, mother, and
homemaker. She ran her own flower shop in Lyons for many years,
worked several years at the Logan Valley Manor, and retired after 20
years as a Supervisor for Region IV/NorthStar Services. In between
work and family, she attended college, nearly completing all
coursework for a bachelor’s degree. She and her sister jointly ran
Thomasen Acres.
Ann was a devoted member of her church and was very active in her
community. One of her proudest accomplishments was raising 5
independent and successful children. She enjoyed music, gardening
and shopping for her family and friends. She loved spending time
with her family and loved her dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lawrence Olsen;
daughter-in-law, Karen Olson; brother-in-law, Leo Olson; all members
of the Lyons community.
Survivors include her husband of nearly 65 years, Gary of Lyons;
sister, Elda of Lyons; children, Mike of Lyons, Marcia (Robert)
Koory of Omaha, NE, Brent of Council Bluffs, IA, Kevin of Chicago,
IL, Julia (Lyle) Georgeson of Gretna, NE; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-
grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She loved them all.
