Lorinda Caroline Charlotte Magirl, 85, of Omaha, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Monday, March 31, 2013, in Omaha.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Omaha. Interment will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Omaha. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Heafey-Hoffmann-Dworak-Cutler in Omaha. The daughter of John and Marie (Tarnow) Hansen, Lorinda was born on March 5, 1929, in Thurston County, NE. She grew up on the farm northwest of Pender, NE. She was baptized at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in rural Pender and confirmed at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Pender. Lorinda attended District 3 Country School in Thurston County, graduated from Pender High School, and attended Wayne State College.
She worked in Sioux City, where she met her husband, John "Jack" F. Magirl, formerly of Jackson, NE. On May 9, 1953, Lorinda was united in marriage to John F. Magirl at Cathedral of the Epiphany in Sioux city. After their marriage, they moved to Omaha. She retired from OPPD in 1995.
She enjoyed family and friends and traveling. She shared her husband's interest in horse races, bowling, and Nebraska football. She did a lot of special things for her nieces and nephews. Lorinda especially liked dining out, visiting on the phone, and typing notes that she inserted in her greeting cards.
Left to cherish Lorinda's memory are her brother, Elmer Hansen of San Antonio, TX; her sister, Marcella Hillegas of Pender; sisters-in-law, Joy Hansen and Hilda Hansen of Pender, Dorothy Magirl of Albuquerque, NM, Mary Helen Moody of Omaha, and Therese Asbra of Sunnyvale, CA; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved equally.
Lorinda was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Magirl on December 28, 1980; her parents, John and Marie Hansen; Jack's parents, Dr. Robert and Mildred Magirl; two brothers, Lyle and Fred Hansen; in -laws, Alma Hansen, Roland Hillegas, Robert Magirl, Henry and Margaret Mahon, Clifford Moody, Hubert and Catherine Tott, and Bernard Asbra; nieces, Marcie Bailey and Mary Tott; and nephews Michael and Kevin Magirl, and John Moody.
