MCGILL, Neil Lavenre


Neil Laverne "Bud" McGill, 94, of Ponca passed away Friday, August 21, 2015, at Elms Health Care Center in Ponca. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca, with the Rev. Andrew L. Sohm officiating. Interment will follow in Ponca City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. today, with the family present at 6 p.m., and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Mohr Funeral Home in Ponca. Neil was born on July 21, 1921, in Ponca, the son of William and Elizabeth (Ehlke) McGill. He graduated from Ponca High School with the Class of 1939. He served his country by joining the United States Army and served during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He landed on Omaha Beach on D-Day. Neil married Margaret Persinger on July 3, 1946, in Ponca. The couple farmed near Ponca for 52 years. Margaret passed away on August 20, 2001. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ponca. Neil enjoyed his family, farming, and especially being on his tractor. He is survived by six sons, Dale and his wife, Celia of Haywood, CA, Richard and his wife, Terri of Laguna Beach, CA, Ron and his wife, Brenda of Ponca, David and his wife, Janet of Sioux Falls, SD, Kerry and his wife, Shari of Greencastle, IN, and Kelly and his wife, Pam of Lincoln, NE; a daughter, Pam and her husband, Dr. Rod Cassens of Bronson, IA; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Bevelhymer and her fiancée, Terry Rohan; 25 grandchildren; and 38 great-grandchildren. Neil was preceded in death by his parents, William and Elizabeth McGill; his wife, Margaret; a son, Kevin McGill; a grandson, Kyle McGill; and a sister, Arlene.
