WHETSTONE, William Raymond


Obituary William Raymond Whetstone was born at Chadron, Nebraska, on November 27, 1898 and departed this life at Lincoln, Nebraska, on November 28, 1931, at the age of thirty-three years and one day. When he was two years old he came with his parents to Cherry County, Nebraska where he spent the greater part of his life. He was united in marriage to Miss Eva Elsie Pilkens. To this union was born one son, William Junior. He leaves to mourn his going, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Whetstone, his son William, Mrs. Boyde Brown, Mrs. Darrell Bishop, Mrs. L. W. Hutchison, and Mrs. W. C. Grady, all of Valentine; Miss Cecil Whetstone of Chadron, Nebraska and Mrs. L. W. Martin of Rapid City, South Dakota, beside a host of relatives and friends. He was an exemplary inmate of the State Prison and would have received his button as such on November 23rd had he been well. Mr. Maxwell, Prison Chaplain who visited him daily during his last illness said he was assured that William had the evidence that he was at peace with his Maker. The Warden told the parents that their son had never given the management any trouble. The funeral took place from the home of his parents in Valentine, Nebraska on Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. December 1, Rev. A. F. Cumbow, assisted by Rev. B. D. Hancom, pastor of the M.E. church, had charge of the services. Many attended the services. The music and floral offerings were expression of profound sympathy and comfort. Burial was in Mt. Hope cemetery. “Dear William, thou hast left us, And thy loss we deeply feel, But we shall meet thee again, Where no farewell tears are shed.”
