Luella Mae Marra was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Bancroft to Frank and Effie (Carlberg) Wood. She graduated from Rosalie High School in 1940. Luella married Wilmer Marra in 1943. Following Wilmer’s service in the Army during World War II, the couple moved to Sioux City, Iowa prior to moving to Wayne in 1950, to raise their three children. Luella and Wilmer owned and operated Marra Home Improvement until their retirement and Wilmer’s passing in 1981. In 1985, Luella married Don Boyce (deceased 2002). The couple spent their time traveling for Don’s Stetson hat sales. Until her passing, Luella lived at The Oaks in Wayne. Luella was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and was an active volunteer in the community. She taught Sunday school and was a youth sponsor at Redeemer Lutheran Church, active in the Wayne Hospital Auxiliary, and volunteered with Main Street Wayne. From making thousands of pounds of peanut brittle over the years for the Christmas fundraiser for the youth group, to knitting hundreds of baby caps for Providence Medical Center, Luella’s passion was giving back to the community. She began golfing at the age of 60, enjoying time on the course with her friends; she enjoyed knitting and crocheting, her bridge and stitch clubs, and her countless hours playing games with her grand and great-grandchildren.
