Rites Held for J. A. Schenk Funeral services were held last Friday for J. A. Schenk at the Methodist Church in Johnstown with the Rev. Clarence Davis officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Jessen-Wisda Funeral Home. Burial was in Grand Prairie cemetery. John Adolph, son of Justus George Schenk and Henrietta Beuse Schenk, was born in Bremen, Germany, on Dec. 22, 1874 and departed this life at Ainsworth on Aug. 29, 1962 at the age of 87 years, 8 months and 7 days. At an early age he was baptized in the Lutheran faith. When 11 years of age he came with his parents to the United States where he later took a homestead in Brown County, which was his home until his death. On Oct. 7, 1902, he was united in marriage to Lina M. Stahl. To this union seven children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lina; two daughters, Mina Rosa and Lena Henrietta; one infant son; and three sisters. Survivors include one son, Justus George of Johnstown; three daughters, Mrs. Emma Tucker of Dannebrog, Nebr., Mrs. Louis Ross of Bancroft, Nebr., and Mrs. Roy Reinert of Johnstown; one brother, George of Central City, Nebr.; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He was a lover of nature and when he gave up farming he spent his time working his garden. He delighted in sharing his produce with others. Otto, as he was known to his many acquaintances, was a kind and loving father and will be sadly missed by his family and a host of friends.
