RANDOLPH — Wayne Eldon Rohde, 88, Randolph, died June 16, 2012, at Colonial Manor, Randolph. Visitation and a Rosary were June 18 at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph. Funeral services were June 19 at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph, with Rev. Michael J. Swanton officiating. Interment was in St. Frances Cemetery, Randolph, with Military Rites conducted by V.F.W. Alvin Kessler Post #5545 and American Legion Post #113, Randolph. Pallbearers were Wayne’s grandsons, Bradley Kempf, Patrick Kempf, Jordan Kempf, Chris Rohde, Alex Rohde, Mike Brotherson and Bobbie Tindle. Honorary pallbearers were all of Wayne’s granddaughters and great-grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of Johnson Funeral Home, Randolph. Wayne was born July 4, 1923, at Sholes, to Louis and Hazel (Bowels) Rohde. Wayne grew up around the Sholes area. He served in the United States Army during World War II serving with the 44th Recon Unit from Aug. 30, 1944, until he was honorably discharged June 26, 1946. Wayne married Irene Thelen Aug.14, 1945, at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church, Randolph. Wayne and Irene farmed near McLean, until 1953, when they moved to a farm east of Wausa. In February 1960, they moved to Magnet where they owned and operated Magnet Grocery Store. Wayne became Postmaster of Magnet Aug.13, 1962, and retired from the Post Office Jan. 3, 1985. In September 2005, the couple moved to Randolph and since June 2011 resided at Colonial Manor Assisted Living, Randolph. Wayne was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church in Randolph; Postmaster Retirees; Knights of Columbus; Life member of V.F.W Alvin Kessler Post #5545 and Life member of American Legion Post #113, both of Randolph. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, woodworking and made many items for his family. Wayne is survived by his wife of 66 years, Irene Rohde, Randolph; their three children and spouses, Diane and Larry Osberg, Seward; Nancy and Darryl Kempf, Boonville, Mo.; and Randy and Lora Rohde, Fordyce; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister and husband, Betty and Dick Sellin, Lexington; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Rohde and Rose Edna Rohde, both of Randolph; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, George and Anna Thelen; three brothers, Clifford, Arthur “Buzz,” and William “Bud;” and one sister, Neva McFadden.
