NORFOLK — Verna J. Strivens, 89, Norfolk, died June 23, 2012, at the Faith Regional Health Services, Norfolk. Visitation was June 25 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Norfolk, and continued Tuesday one hour prior to services. Funeral services were June 26 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Norfolk, with the Rev. Edgar L. Schambach officiating. Burial was in Lawn Ridge Cemetery, Coleridge. Pallbearers were Dianna Brodine, Christopher Yunker, Travis Strivens, Mary Lammers, Michelle Marquis, Robyn McGill, Alison Strivens and David Fox. Honorary pallbearers were Verna’s great-grandchildren. Arrangements were under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Coleridge. Verna June Strivens was born June 1, 1923, in Coleridge, to Will and Lena (Post) Frerichs. She graduated from Coleridge High School in 1940. After graduation, she worked in a grocery store, cream station and the post office. Verna married Robert Strivens June 1, 1947. They had four children and farmed in the Wausa area until 2004. Verna worked for Pfeil & Associates during the tax season for about three years. In 2004, they moved to Norfolk. Verna and Bob were fortunate to be able to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary this spring. She loved playing cards, crocheting, painting and being around her family and friends. Verna is survived by her husband, Bob, Norfolk; her four children and their spouses, Bill and Rhonda Strivens, Hartington; Gary and Barb Strivens, Wausa; Dave and Susan Strivens, Wausa; and June and Dave Fox, Wisner; eight grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters; one grandchild, Carrie Ann Strivens; and one step-grandchild, Andrew Deyo.
